Last week's double-header at Hoxie saw the Mohawks come out and take the first game by a final of 7-6 with freshman Colby Lovelace pitching the entire seven innings. On the game Lovelace struck out 12 Mustangs, walked three, and gave up five hits over the full game. Colby also helped his own cause at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two RBI. Sam Yates and Tanner Murray each went 2-4 on the game, and Yates drove in two of the Piggott runs. BriceSwann, Brandon Burdin, Jonathan Wright, Alek Samples and Hayden McMillon also had hits for the Tribe in the win.
In the nightcap, Swann took the loss and pitched all but the final inning as the Mohawks dropped a 13-10 decision, freshman Trent Edwards came on and pitched the seventh frame in the loss.
Lovelace once again led the offensive charge with a 3 for 4 performance and drove in three of the Piggott runs, Murray added two more RBI while Wright, Samples and McMillon drove in one run each in the loss. Daniel Cheshire also had a good day at the plate with a 2 for 4 effort.
Monday afternoon the Mohawks hosted the Manila Lions at Independence Park and dropped a 4-7 decision. Junior Tyler Grubb pitched six and a third innings and took the loss. Lovelace came on in relief and gave up five walks in the sixth, but came out and set the Lions down in order in the seventh.
Brice Swann led the Tribe's offensive attack with a 2-3 day and two of the Mohawk's RBI; Murray, McMillon and Samples each went 2 for 4, while Burdin, Yates, Wright and Lovelace all got a hit. In fact, attempted sacrifice squeeze bunts by Wright and Burdin turned into base hits.
With the most recent play the Mohawks now stand at 4-7 on the season. The seeding for this weekend's district tournament at Brookland was scheduled to be completed Wednesday, and the Tribe should be playing sometime this weekend..of course that is weather permitting.
