The three seniors on this year's Mohawk squad were, from left--Tyler Grubb, Daniel Cheshire and Jonathan Wright. The trio provided leadership to a young Tribe this year that continued to show improvement, and finished with a winning record in the second round of the district tournament at Piggott.
The Piggott Mohawks were eliminated from the 3 AAA North district tournament at Independence Park Friday afternoon in a thrilling 1-2 loss to the Corning Bobcats. With the win Corning advanced to the semi-finals to face Manila, and insured themselves a trip to next week's regional at Tuckerman. Earlier in the day Rivercrest eliminated Harrisburg, and the Colts were then set to take on Tuckerman in the other semi.

The Mohawk-Bobcat contest turned into a classic pitcher's duel between the aces of each staff, Piggott's Tyler Grubb and Corning's Zack Brown. Both pitched the complete game, with Grubb surrendering just two hits in taking the loss.

We'll have more details, and comments from Coach Shawn Hearn, in the April 25 print and on-line editions of The Piggott Times.

In the semi-finals the Tuckerman Bulldogs took care of Rivercrest 8-4, while Manila coasted past the weary Bobcats 12-2 to set-up today's

consolation final and championship game.

According to Coach Hearn, as of 1:30 p.m. the groundskeepers were busy preparing the field for the 4 p.m. first pitch of the consolation game between Harrisburg and Corning. The championship game between Tuckerman and Manils is set for 6:30 p.m. And, of course, that is weather permitting as rain remains in the forecast.

In the event of a rain-out we'll post the date and time of the make-up games as soon as possible here on our website.

For the Mohawks, they wrap up their season with a winning record overall and .500 in conference as they say goodbye to seniors Grubb, Daniel Cheshire and Jonathan Wright. Otherwise coaches Hearn and Rabjohn expect to return a seasoned squad next spring that should look to contend for a district title.
