AAA announces re-classifications for 2010-2012
Posted Friday, May 29, at 12:36 PM
Each two years the Arkansas Activities Association re-classifies schools based on enrollment. This week the AAA released the numbers for 2010-2012 and there will be some impact to the teams the Piggott Mohawks play in a variety of sports.

Two conference foes from this two year period, one in football and one in basketball, will be moving up to 4A. Both the Cave City Cavemen and the Brookland Bearcats will be making that jump beginning with the fall of 2010.

Of the 304 districts included on the list the Piggott Mohawks are ranked 147th. Rivercrest is the top 3A school from this area at 115 while Corning stood at 119, Harrisburg at 128, Manila at 130 and Hoxie at 136th.

The top 2A school was Magnet Cove, which was ranked 167th while Marmaduke came in at 177th and Rector was 194th.

The Hughes Blue Devils are also slated to drop to 2A for the coming bienium, while the Bay Yellowjackets will drop to a 1A school for high school sports.

The complete list may be found at the AAA website at http://www.ahsaa.org/

Again the re-classification does not affect the coming 2009-2010 school year, but the following two year period starting in the fall of 2010 and running through the spring of 2012.

Bonds forged in the heat of battle are always stronger, and the former athlete in most coaches allows them to appreciate their players in a way many cannot comprehend. You may call it a "foxhole" mentality, but all I know is that it builds strong relationships that last well beyond the school years...

Posted Friday, March 13, at 8:59 AM

It's nearly spring by my calender sports fans, and that can mean only one thing...baseball and softball seasons are underway. After the long winter indoors the arrival of spring sports is always a harbinger of warmer weather and the approaching end of school...
